MANILA, Philippines – A businessman who owns a row of apartments in Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City shot dead a burglar who broke into a tenant’s unit yesterday morning.
Acting city police chief Superintendent Jaime Santos said Armin Alviar, 30, surprised Jaime Santos, alias “Tisoy,” as the thief was walking out of Teresa Ann Morales’ apartment with her laptop at around 5 a.m.
Tisoy “then tried to stab Santos with a screwdriver. It was at this point that Alviar drew his .40 caliber Glock pistol and shot him twice in the chest,” the official said. Morales was not at home when the burglary happened.
Santos said Tisoy died on arrival at the Ospital ng Makati while Alviar surrendered to responding police officers. Alviar also surrendered his licensed Glock pistol to police.
Alviar is detained at the city police station and will be charged with homicide, Santos said, adding that it is up to the court to decide if the shooting “is justifiable or not.”
