Caloocan reminds residents of increased fire hazards in summer
MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan Mayor Enrico Echiverri reminded residents yesterday to be particularly careful since fires are more common in the summer.
In an advisory for Fire Prevention Month, he said that by following simple steps in fire prevention, “residents can ensure their safety as well as the security of their homes and their belongings.”
Echiverri told residents to regularly inspect their electrical wiring, the hose of their gas stove and not to leave lit mosquito coils, gas lamps or candles unattended. He also told them to keep matches out of children’s reach and observe “overall alertness in the kitchen.”
Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas president Ricojudge Echiverri also reminded residents to always bring whistles with them, which they could use during emergencies.
He said whistle blowing may be used as a type of alarm that tells residents of a fire in progress and the need to evacuate immediately. “This, in effect, will save the residents’ lives,” he said.
