4 Chinese nabbed with fake visas

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) recently sent four Chinese travelers back to their country for carrying fake visas and trying to use the Philippines as a jump-off point to get to the United States and Canada.

In a statement, the BI said Jiang Wen and Lin De Wum were arrested as they were preparing for their trip to Vancouver, Canada while Chen Nan and Chen Shaojin were on their way to Los Angeles.

The four foreigners were arrested Feb. 25 by agents of the BI’s Travel Control and Enforcement Unit.

BI airport operations division acting chief Benito Se said the foreigners were apprehended a few hours after they arrived as transit passengers aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Jakarta, Indonesia. They were sent on a return flight to Beijing the same day.

They said they each paid between $7,000 to $8,000 to a syndicate in China to facilitate their travel papers and for their trip to Indonesia and the Philippines.
