MANILA, Philippines - Nine mortar shells were recovered from a construction site in Las Piñas City Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The shells were buried about four-feet deep near the Central Elementary School in Barangay Elias Aldano, said city police chief Senior Superintendent Romulo Sapitula.
Construction workers Renato Gallo, 42, and Leonardo Petiluna, 35, said they recovered six mortar shells when they were setting up the building’s foundation. Members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) who responded to the scene retrieved three more mortar shells.
The ammunitions were turned over to the Southern Police District.
