SUV hits MRT post; 4 hurt
MANILA, Philippines - Four persons were hurt after their sport utility vehicle slammed into a post of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) near Shaw Boulevard along EDSA at past midnight yesterday.
The road emergency and rescue unit of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) identified two of those injured as Edmundo Casanova, the driver of the white Mitsubishi Montero (ZED-555) and his wife, Maricel Casanova, 38.
Maricel and Edmundo were rushed to the nearby Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center (formerly the Polymedic General Hospital) for emergency treatment of their injuries. The two other passengers, Edmundo’s mother and nephew, sustained minor injuries, the MMDA said.
According to the MMDA, Edmundo sustained minor injuries to the chest and face while Maricel’s legs were pinned by the SUV.
Reports said the SUV was cruising along EDSA at about 1:25 a.m. and was about to exit the Shaw tunnel when it hit the MRT post.
In an interview over GMA-7, Edmundo said he felt tired and fell asleep while driving. The MMDA said the victims were on their way to Batangas when the accident happened.
