MANILA, Philippines - A pastor was gunned down by an unidentified assailant in front of his congregation’s chapel in Caloocan City yesterday.
Police said Angelito Gutierrez, 53, was talking with his friend, Benjie Gutierrez, on J. Ramos street in Barangay 7 when he was killed at around 10:30 a.m. Angelito died on the spot from two gunshot wounds in the head.
In a statement to investigators, Benjie said he and the victim were talking in front of the chapel of the Jesus Source of Hope Christian Fellowship when he saw a man draw a gun and, without a word, shoot Angelito.
Benjie said it was so sudden he failed to look at the face of the gunman, who walked away.
Residents told police the victim was reportedly a pastor of the Jesus is Lord Movement and owned a pawnshop. Police have yet to establish the motive for the killing.
