Pasay cops probe new lead in Batangas vice mayor's murder

MANILA, Philippines - Pasay City police officers said yesterday they are investigating a new lead in the Dec. 15, 2011 killing of Talisay, Batangas Vice Mayor Florencio Manimtim.

Two men tagged in Manimtim’s murder – former policeman Macario Macauba and Efren Macahiya – were themselves slain in a shootout with policemen after they allegedly ambushed and killed Manimtim’s nephew, Dan Omana, and his bodyguard, Joel Caringal, in Tanauan, Batangas last Jan. 16.

Police said investigators from Pasay and Batangas are checking if the pieces of evidence in the two attacks match.
