Marikina opens dump
MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Marikina City has opened its materials recovery facility (MRF) on a 922-square-meter lot in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman yesterday said the dump could hold at least 200 tons of recyclable and non-recyclable garbage of the city’s 16 barangays.
De Guzman said the city government of Marikina, through the City Environment Management Office in partnership with the International Solid Waste Management Specialist Inc., runs the MRF, which started to be operational last Friday.
Recyclable materials are being sold to junk shops while the non-recyclable materials are brought to a sanitary landfill in Rodriguez, Rizal.
“With the MRF, we are able to earn money through selling recyclable wastes to junk shops. This is what we use to maintain our facility,” said De Guzman.
