MANILA, Philippines - The killing of an official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Marikina City on Sunday night was not work-related, the agency said yesterday.
MMDA spokesperson Alu Dorotan said police investigators are looking at a possible love triangle angle in the shooting of Cesar Bacani, 54.
According to Dorotan, based on initial police investigation, one of the suspects is a police officer who is a former lover of a woman with whom Bacani allegedly had a romantic relationship.
Bacani was shot dead after he and his wife attended Mass in Marikina City. Police said Bacani was parking his motorcycle in front of his house at about 8:30 p.m. in Barangay Barangka when the three persons arrived on a motorcycle and shot him.
When Bacani fell to the ground, another one of the attackers approached him and shot him several more times in the head and body. Bacani’s wife, who had gone into the house while he was parking, rushed out and found her husband lying on the ground.
Bacani died on the spot. After the shooting, the suspects sped away on their motorcycle. Bacani was a field operation officer of the MMDA-Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group.
