Judge orders Ivler brought back to jail

MANILA, Philippines - A judge yesterday ordered authorities to bring back road rage murder suspect Jason Ivler to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City after doctors declared he was fit for discharge from the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC).

Ivler underwent surgery at the QMMC on Dec. 19, 2011 to reverse his colostomy and allow him to defecate normally. His attending physician, Dr. Romeo Abary, recommended his discharge when Ivler’s sutures were removed after nearly three weeks of confinement.

The suspect, who is accused of killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., was injured in a shootout with his captors in 2010, resulting in the colostomy performed on him.

Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Luisito Cortez, citing Abary’s recommendation, also ordered jail warden Senior Inspector John Basilio to place Ivler “in a segregated detention cell near the infirmary.”

Cortez said Ivler should not be subjected to strenuous activities within the next six months and told camp physician Dr. Jaime Claveria to “monitor and perform the necessary medical procedure based on the progress of recuperation as well as the healing of the wound of accused.”

Ivler’s hospital bill reached P525,076 from Dec. 15, 2011 to Jan. 12. Cortez has authorized the release of the P500,000 deposited by Ivler’s camp to be paid to the QMMC.
