'Review PUV insurance firms' accreditation'

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - Transport group Pasang Masda has called on Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II to look into the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) re-accreditation of only two insurance companies that will provide Public Passenger Accident Insurance Program (PPAIP).

Obet Martin, Pasang Masda president, said that the LTFRB’s move has reduced the number of insurance companies from which public utility vehicle (PUV) operators could get their PPAI.

Martin said the move was contrary to LTFRB’s plan to increase from two to at least five the insurance consortia in the program.

He said only the Philippine Accident Managers, Inc. (PAMI) and a new group identified as Strategic and Comprehensive Consultants, Inc. were reaccredited by the LTFRB last November.

It was learned that the LTFRB had changed the terms of reference during the re-accreditation process. Insurance firms that participated in the accreditation process have questioned the process.

Martin expressed hope that Roxas would take action and if possible, nullify the accreditation made by the LTFRB.
