Drunk man roused from sleep kills 4
MANILA, Philippines - A man who was awakened after joining a drinking session stabbed dead four men before trying to kill himself in Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa, Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
Robert Estorque, 32, who is from Capiz and had been in Metro Manila for barely a week, is currently confined at the East Avenue Medical Center for self-inflicted stab wounds in the neck and chest. Estorque is tied to his hospital bed since he has been struggling against hospital staff, Police Officer 1 Alvin Quisumbing said.
Witness Velentin Berundo, 25, told police that victim Teodolfo Glory’s nephew, Reggie, introduced Estorque as a nephew who just arrived from Capiz and was staying in Pasay City. Reggie, Teodolfo, and Robert Gallenero were drinking liquor at Teodolfo’s house Thursday night.
Estorque, reportedly a construction worker, said he wanted help to return to Capiz since he could not work properly with an injured hand. Reggie advised him to stay in Metro Manila so he could eventually land a job. The drinking ended at midnight and they went to sleep. Reggie went home to Valenzuela City.
The suspect reportedly woke up, grabbed a knife and said he wanted to kill Reggie. He attacked Roberto Gardoze, Teodolfo, and Gallenero. He also stabbed Serio de la Rosa, who was passing in front of the house after buying coffee.
Berundo said he saw Estorque slowly stabbing himself after the attacks.
