Quiapo roads closed starting Saturday

- Nestor Etolle -

MANILA, Philippines - The southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo up to Lerma Street in España will be closed to all types of vehicles starting at 11 a.m. Saturday to give way to the procession of Black Nazarene replicas, the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) announced yesterday.

Saturday’s procession is the precursor of the much bigger one on Monday, the feast of the Black Nazarene, where authorities expect some eight million devotees to take part.

Police said on Saturday afternoon all vehicles coming from Quezon City traveling along España shall turn right on P. Campa, left Andalucia, right Fugoso and left on T. Mapua.

All public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and other light vehicles going to Port Area shall turn left on Nicanor Reyes, right on C.M. Recto, straight to Jose Abad Santos, left on Reina Regente up to Jones bridge and right on Magallanes Drive.

All PUJs plying Monumento-Gasak-Recto shall turn right on Fugoso and right on Oroquieta.

All vehicles coming from Legarda shall turn right on C.M. Recto or turn left to Mendiola.

MDTEU officials advised the public to avoid the Quiapo area on Saturday.
