Ninoy tomb vandal 'mentally disturbed'

- Aie Balagtas See -

MANILA, Philippines - The notes left on the tombs of slain former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park last Dec. 25 were poems that mentioned celebrities and blowing up the tombs.

Parañaque City police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran dismissed these writings as “incoherent” and the work of someone who could be “mentally disturbed.”

There were three notes, both handwritten and computerized, posted on the Aquinos’ tombs.

Police suspect these notes were written by a certain Mariano Peralto Alganion of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, whose picture and name were posted on the tomb together with the poems.

He is reportedly the same person accosted by the Presidential Security Group on Oct. 31 for trying to go near President Aquino.

Security guards have been posted at the Aquino mausoleum to prevent a repeat of the incident as police hunt Alganion. Beltran said once Alganion is arrested, he can be charged with malicious mischief.
