MANILA, Philippines - Some P20,000 worth of confiscated illegal firecrackers were destroyed at the headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Camp Karingal yesterday.
Among those burned were “pla-pla,” “Goodbye Philippines,” and “bawang,” firecrackers that were deemed not following standards set by law.
The items were seized in separate operations conducted by the police stations in the city, upon orders of QCPD director Chief Superintendent George Regis.
QCPD deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Arrazad Subung said many peddlers of these firecrackers are themselves not aware which ones are prohibited.
Subung said these operations against illegal firecrackers would continue in the runup to the New Year celebration.
