MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has reported to the police that his father’s tomb at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City had been vandalized.
Aquino discovered that there were some carvings on the tomb of slain Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. after he and his siblings attended the Mass at the cemetery on Christmas Day last Sunday.
Parañaque police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran said the Aquino family’s caretaker initially discovered the vandalism on Dec. 23 and later informed the President during the Mass.
Park security guard Ronnie Mariano said used oil was spilled on the top of the tomb of Ninoy.
Computerized and handwritten notes were also taped on the tomb.
Beltran said the notes consist of “incoherent phrases” but he declined to divulge what were written on it pending the investigation.
Beltran said the suspects could be charged with malicious mischief.
Park manager Lamberto Pena said Manila Memorial is also conducting a separate investigation into the incident.
