PNP forms new police strategy unit
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police has dissolved its Program Management Office (PMO) and created a Center for Police Strategy Management (CPSM) to oversee the transformation and strategy effort of the police force, according to a PNP official.
“It’s the end of an office but not the end of the transformation of the PNP,” Deputy Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr., PNP deputy chief for operation, said.
“The PNP needs to establish a CPSM to comply with the performance governance system, which requires a score card to gauge the status of the PNP as part of the effort to make the PNP highly capable, credible and effective police force by 2030,” he added.
Cacdac said the PMO was conceptualized after a study commissioned by the United Nations Development Program in 2005. In its six years of existence, the PMO helped the Crime Laboratory and other PNP offices become more efficient and effective, he said.
“The Crime Lab now has the Integrated Ballistics Identification System and Automated Firearms Identification System which could help identify firearms used in crimes,” he said.
