1 dead in frat war
MANILA, Philippines - A 20-year-old college student died while another was injured in a fraternity war between rival groups outside the campus of the University of East (UE) in C. M. Recto Avenue in Sampaloc, Manila Friday evening.
Webly Puntinglan, a third year business management student of UE and a member of the Samahang Ilocano (SI) fraternity died at the Mary Chiles Hospital while being treated for multiple stab wounds in the body. Another SI member, Jason Espinola, 23, also of the same university, survived the attack but sustained a stab wound in the nape.
Members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity allegedly attacked the SI members as the latter were walking toward a fast food store
Senior Inspector Joey de Ocampo, who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District, ordered a manhunt on the suspects whose identities were temporarily withheld.
He said he will also request for the deployment of additional police outside the campus to prevent hostilities between the rival fraternities.
