MANILA, Philippines - A former errand boy of the La Paz, Tarlac police, who was arrested for beating up his partner, hanged himself shortly after being detained at the Caloocan City jail yesterday.
Adrian Magpayo, 31, was working as a cook at a public market in Caloocan to hide from crimes he allegedly committed in Tarlac. Police Officer 3 Eduardo Ronquillo said Magpayo was the subject of arrest warrants for murder and illegal possession of a firearm, and feared he would be killed if he is turned over to the Tarlac police.
Ronquillo and intelligence unit commander Chief Inspector Crescencio Galvez found Magpayo used his shirt and a face towel to hang himself.
Police said Magpayo attacked his partner after she broke up with him yesterday.
