Hijackers steal P2-M meat products from truck
MANILA, Philippines - A cargo truck that was hijacked in Manila at past midnight Saturday was found in Caloocan City hours later, with its cargo of P2 million worth of meat products missing.
Driver Antonio Quinto, 37, told police they just came from their warehouse at the North Harbor and were supposed to deliver the meat products to their firm’s branches. He was driving through Road 10 in Balut, Tondo with helper Ruby Quinto, 25, when they were flagged down by four men who identified themselves as police officers conducting a routine inspection of passing cargo trucks.
Quinto said one of the gunmen took over the truck while the others blindfolded and bound him and his helper.
Quinto told the Caloocan City police that they traveled and stopped several times and observed that the meat products were being unloaded at every stop.
He said more than three hours after the hijacking, the gunmen left him and his helper unharmed in the truck. Watchmen patrolling Barangay 14 in Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan City found the victims and their empty truck along Dagat-Dagatan Avenue at around 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
