5 hurt in 4-vehicle collision on EDSA

MANILA, Philippines - Five persons were hurt when a Hyundai Tucson sports utility vehicle rear-ended a taxicab and hit two other vehicles along the northbound lane of EDSA in Cubao early yesterday.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the accident happened in front of the Nepa Q-Mart at around 3:51 a.m. and involved two taxicabs, an L300 van (ZCN-554), and the Hyundai Tucson (YFN-340).

Initial investigation showed that the Hyundai Tucson driven by a certain Christine Marie Gonzalez rear-ended Glowing Stone taxi (UVD-381) driven by Ernesto Vallena and sent it crashing to the wall of the Metro Rail Transit.

The SUV then crashed into another taxi (UVF-549) that was picking up passengers at the sidewalk and the parked L300 van.

Traffic investigators of the MMDA are still determining what triggered the accident.
