BI to deport Japanese for large-scale fraud

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - A 45-year-old Japanese man who allegedly engaged in a large-scale fraud will soon be deported, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said yesterday.

In a statement, BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Ryuchi Ohira reportedly withdrew 500,000 yen from another person’s postal savings account in 2005 by falsifying the depositor’s signature on the withdrawal slip.

BI spokeswoman Maria Antonette Bucasas-Mangrobang said a district court in Kofu issued a warrant for Ohira’s arrest for fraud and falsification of a sealed private document in September last year and Ohira arrived in Manila last Oct. 29. He was arrested in a house in Baclaran, Parañaque City on Nov. 21 and is being held at the BI’s prison in Taguig City.
