Pasay worker hangs self in city hall restroom

MANILA, Philippines -   A casual employee of the Pasay City government was found hanging in the restroom of the treasurer’s office just before Pasay started a weeklong celebration of its 148th year, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Turla, Pasay’s deputy police chief for administration, said Ronald Urbina, who was in charge of opening and cleaning the treasurer’s office every morning, reported very early for work at about 4:30 a.m. yesterday. A female employee found his body hanging by an electric cable at around 7 a.m.

Employee Roel San Pedro confirmed the victim was a casual employee but refused to elaborate, saying they were told not to give any statements.

Frederick Veloso, head of the civil relations management office, told The STAR he secured the “crime scene” before the police crime scene investigators arrived.

Turla said that based on initial reports, the victim could have been driven to take his own life due to either misunderstandings with relatives or a girlfriend.
