LTFRB suspends bus firm in mishap

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has suspended a bus firm after one of its units was involved in a collision with another bus on Commonwealth Avenue Tuesday night in which 34 passengers were hurt.

LTFRB chairman Jaime Jacob said the franchise of CEM Transit has been suspended for 30 days pending an investigation. Board member Manuel Iway said the board has also told CEM Transit to explain why its franchise should not be cancelled following the accident.

Iway said it was the CEM Transit that rear-ended the Everlasting Bus unit, which was dropping off passengers.

According to Jacob, the drivers of CEM Transit will be tested for illegal drugs and its units checked for roadworthiness.
