Belgian jumps to death from hotel room

MANILA, Philippines - A Belgian man allegedly jumped from his 12th floor room at a Makati City hotel Wednesday afternoon after his girlfriend rejected his marriage proposal, police said yesterday.
Police said security guards at the Makati Palace Hotel heard a loud thud along P. Burgos street and found Marrion Thiery Maurice, 31, sprawled on the pavement at around 1:30 p.m.
A Makati rescue team rushed Maurice to the nearby Ospital ng Makati but he died while being treated for head and body injuries.
Police said the victim left a suicide note that narrated how his offer of marriage to his Filipina girlfriend was allegedly rejected. Police did not reveal the identity of the woman.
