MANILA, Philippines - A 52-year-old cab driver was shot dead in Sta. Cruz, Manila yesterday morning.
The body of Renee Adaguio was discovered by policemen lying face up on the ground near his taxi, Tackle Trans Service (TXD-383), parked in front of the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School at the corner of Ipil and Tayuman streets in Sta. Cruz at past 5 a.m.
He sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder. An empty shell from a .45 caliber pistol was recovered on the floor of the taxicab. The taxi’s left rear window was shattered.
A cell phone and a wallet containing P40 were recovered from Adaguio’s person, according to Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal.
The victim left the taxi firm’s garage in Caloocan City at past 4 a.m., Villareal said. A barangay watchman who discovered the body “but no one in the area could give details on how the shooting occurred,” Villareal said.
Villareal is still checking if the victim had been robbed or figured in a quarrel with a passenger.
