NGO joins fund drive for famine-hit African nations

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - A local non-government organization has partnered with the World Food Program to raise $10,000 in food aid for starving people in the Horn of Africa.

Betty Romero, deputy director of Lifeline Foundation said the food aid will go to Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia, where at least 13 million people are reportedly suffering from famine.

“We got spurred into action. Maybe Filipinos can do something other than just being at the receiving end of aid,” Romero said.

Lifeline Foundation is hosting a fun run dubbed as “Rain for Africa” to be held tomorrow at the Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Registration fee for all categories is P400.
