Quezon City court affirms closure of PMI maritime courses

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) has upheld a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) order for the closure of two marine courses at the PMI Colleges in Manila and Quezon City.

QCRTC Judge Aurora Hernandez-Calledo denied the petition for temporary restraining order (TRO) filed by PMI Colleges on the closure of its Bachelor in Science Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering courses.

Calledo said the court was not convinced that PMI has a “clear and unmistakable right” to a TRO, adding that there were deficiencies discovered during CHED’s investigation.

PMI said the closure of the two courses would be disadvantageous to its students, adding that it has already undertaken efforts to comply starting the first semester of school year 2011-2012, and that CHED rules actually provide that implementations of closures be made only at the end of a school year.
