Delivery of PNP patrol cars delayed?

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines - While some police units are complaining about the lack of vehicles for their patrol operations, over 100 patrol jeeps have been parked for over two months now at the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame.

The STAR managed to take pictures of the vehicles behind the three-story building of the Logistics Support Service (LSS) at the police camp near EDSA.

Chief Superintendent Manuel Cachero, LSS head, however, said the distribution of the vehicles is ongoing and the supplier is paying for the cost of the shipment.

He admitted that the shipment of some of the vehicles has been delayed because the Department of Interior and Local Government is reviewing the contract to ensure that it is not anomalous and disadvantageous to the government.

Cachero said they have delivered all the patrol jeeps in Luzon while the patrol vehicles for Cebu are being loaded in the pier for delivery.

“We hope to complete the delivery within the month. We have sent our people to arrange for the proper receipt of the vehicles. Ayaw na natin na maulit yung nangyari,” said Cachero.

Cachero was referring to several alleged anomalous deal for police equipment including helicopters, patrol boats and armored personnel carriers during the past administration.

Cachero said PNP officials have implemented measures to ensure that proper procedures are followed to the letter, following the scandals.

“The process now is very tedious. Alam mo naman ang investigation, dapat maayos na talaga. We are inspecting all of the equipment, we are warming up some of them and we see to it the lapses in the past will not happen again,” he added.
