CIDG vows to step up drive vs human trafficking

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) vowed yesterday to step up its drive against human trafficking after the Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted the operators of a bar in Makati City with violating the anti-human trafficking law.

The CIDG, assisted by Makati police officers, rescued 38 females, including some minors, from the Pharoah KTV club last Sept. 20. The DOJ has ruled that the club’s floor managers can be charged for allegedly conspiring to hire, receive and harbor the victims for prostitution and exploitation.

CIDG chief Director Samuel Pagdilao said his unit will raid other clubs where women are being forced into prostitution.
