MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Customs (BOC) Deputy Commissioner Danilo Lim warned the public Monday against namedroppers who are reportedly collecting “tara” or bribes in his behalf.
“Let it be public knowledge that I neither asked for tara nor appointed anyone to solicit either for myself or for my office,” he said in a statement.
He warned those transacting with the BOC that bribery is a crime, and that the agency will “not hesitate to seek the harshest penalty” under the Revised Penal Code.
Lim said his reputation will not be tarnished with corruption because he reveres “the time-honored principle that ‘a public office is a public trust.’”
