Maynilad installs electromagnetic meters

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is installing electromagnetic meters to replace the mechanical meters of its top 100 accounts in a bid to improve billing accuracy and reduce meter malfunctions.

Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ricky Vargas said that by upgrading the water meters of its top 100 accounts, they expect to reduce commercial losses by two to three percent.

In 2010, Maynilad replaced the meters of 1,000 large accounts or those who consume five to 28,000 cubic meters per day. The company is scheduled to replace the meters of 478 more accounts by November this year.

“Our goal is to reduce our NRW to 40 percent or lower by 2012—down from the 67 percent NRW level before new owners came in last 2007. We are adopting a multi-pronged approach. In addition to repairing leaks, replacing old pipes and running after illegal connections, we are also upgrading our water meters,” said Vargas.
