Carjacker slain in Ermita shootout
MANILA, Philippines - Manila policemen killed one of three suspected carjackers in a shootout along the Lagusnilad underpass in Ermita yesterday.
Victim Teodoro Callos, 36, a junkshop owner, said he was driving his motorcycle when three men on another motorcycle blocked his path along the underpass. They tried to take his motorcycle at gunpoint, he said.
It was at this juncture that six policemen in a patrol car spotted the commotion. As the lawmen approached, the suspects shot at them, triggering a shootout.
The slain suspect, estimated to be in his early 30s, was armed with a .38 caliber homemade revolver.
