MANILA, Philippines – An officer of the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD) was shot dead on her way to work early yesterday.
The Makati City police identified the victim as Mila Dumaguit, 52, resident of Valenzuela City, and a supervisor of the MSWD’s logistics and finance division.
Police said Dumaguit was riding a Mitsubishi L-300 van (SHU-989) driven by a certain Jun del Pilar, and traveling along Tanay street in Barangay Valenzuela around 6:45 a.m. when two unidentified men aboard a motorcycle blocked the vehicle and fired at them.
Police said Dumaguit died on the spot while Del Pilar, who was badly wounded, is now in critical condition at a hospital.
Dumaguit was with the MSWD in the past 10 years and in charge of the unit’s office supplies. Her officemates described the victim as mild-mannered, adding that she never mentioned any threat to her life prior to her fatal shooting.
Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay meanwhile, ordered city police chief Superintendent Jaime Santos to explore all angles in its investigation.
“I am saddened and shocked by the untimely death of Mila. I sincerely convey my prayers and condolences to her bereaved family. She does not deserve to leave this way,” Binay said.
