MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is hiring at least 500 new firemen to strengthen its manpower nationwide.

BFP Director Rolando Badilla said the recruitment of new firemen is expected to address the insufficient number of BFP personnel and effectively stir public awareness on fire prevention.

He said applicants must be between 21 to 30 years old, at least 5’4” in height for male and 5’2” for female and weigh not more or less than 50 kilograms from the standard weight corresponding to his and her height.

Badilla said applicants must be of good moral character, passed the neuro-psychiatric evaluation, medical examination and drug test for the purpose of determining his/her physical and mental health.

“Applicants must not have been dishonorably discharged or dismissed for cause from previous employment; and must not have been convicted by final judgment of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude,” he added.

Interested and qualified parties may submit their application at the Personnel Resource Management Division at BFP’s national headquarters at Room 702, 145 Union Square Condominium, 15th Avenue, Cubao, Quezon City.

Badilla said the BFP is also gearing towards modernization, including the acquisition of new fire trucks and protective gears.

“At present, some areas in the country are still in great need of additional manpower for fast and effective response to fire and other emergencies,” he said.

Badilla said the bureau is also providing trainings to its personnel to further sharpen their skills not only in firefighting, but also in life-saving operations.
