Cop sues former subordinates over jailbreak

MANILA, Philippines - An official of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has filed a criminal case against 10 of his former subordinates for the flight of nine detainees from their cell in a police station in Fairview.

Superintendent Edgardo Pamittan, erstwhile commander of the QCPD-Station 5, served as the complainant in the case of “evasion through negligence” under Article 224 of the Revised Penal Code against 10 police officers before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.

They are Senior Police Officers 2 Reymundo Paligutan and Crisanto Jeroza; Senior Police Officers 1 Jonathan Caranza and Dante Surban; Police Officer 3 Manuel Ereno and Police Officers 2 Joselito Imperial, Alfredo Pastor Jr., Eliseo Santos, Jaime Samson and Romeo Guererro.

Pamittan was relieved as station commander following the jailbreak on the morning of Sept. 14. A hacksaw was smuggled into the detention cell a day before the jailbreak by a girlfriend of one of the detainees.

Since then, six of the escapees have been re-arrested and brought back to detention.

Paligutan was the desk officer, while Cagasan was manning the station’s tactical operation center when the escape happened.

Jeroza, Caranza, Surban, Pastor, Santos and Imperial were the on-duty operatives. Guerrero and Samson are the police station’s jail officers.
