Boy kills self after breakup with girlfriend

MANILA, Philippines - A 17-year-old boy reportedly committed suicide after breaking up with his girlfriend.

The body of Jose Sumang was discovered Friday night by his elder brother in his room at the second floor of their house in Magsaysay Village in Tondo, Manila. Police said the victim was already dead when found, with an empty small bottle beside him. Also found near his body is his photograph with several male and female friends around him.

According to the victim’s brother, Jose showed signs of depression after he and his girlfriend reportedly broke up. Jose tried to woo back his girlfriend but failed and since then always stayed alone in his room.

Police said they will check the bottle recovered beside the victim’s body for poison.

“We initially suspect the victim could had ingested the lethal silver cleaning solution,” Senior Police Officer 1 Charles John Duran said.
