Lights out in Pasay: lamps missing

- Perseus Echeminada -

MANILA, Philippines - Thieves have been carting away the lamps and electric wires in the lampposts installed along the one-kilometer stretch of Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City.

Engineer Renato Sanchez, officer- in-charge of the Pasay City engineering department, said the looting of electric posts along Roxas Boulevard has been going on for some time. He said several people have been caught removing not only the electric wires and diamond-shaped lamps but also their bronze casing.

The STAR spotted a man who scaled the metal post and removed one of the lamps in full view of people below.

“They now look like bamboo poles,” a vendor near one of the lamppost stripped of its lamp told The STAR.

The STAR tried to get the reaction of the city mayor, but was instead referred to the engineering department.

“It’s the project of the previous administration so we cannot comment on it,” an official of the public information department said.
