MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government gave cash and certificates to the city’s model families and associations yesterday as part of its celebration of the National Family Week.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri and Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman graced the occasion held at the Glorietta Park in Tala, Caloocan City North.
Among those recognized were Aurora de Guzman as solo parent; while Restituto Yalung, Felix Faustino, Evelyn Dator, Pedro Junio Jr., Ma. Perlita Mateo and Corazon Siya were recognized for raising model families.
Cited as exceptional groups were the Pantawid Matapat Wise Mom Sea-K Association, Royal Pantawid, Pantawid Vitarich, Everlasting Pantawid, Nagkakaisang Kababaihan Pantawid, Kalayaan Pantawid, Unlad Kabuhayan Pantawid and Sagisag Pantawid.
They were given cash and certificates “for their positive contributions to society,” particularly in Caloocan City, Echiverri said.
According to the mayor, it is important for the local government to recognize exceptional families and groups so others may emulate them.
“This serves as a challenge for other families and associations in Caloocan to emulate the good acts of those that we have honored,” Echiverri said.
Soliman praised the city government for its continued support to indigent families and “for giving hope and direction” to homeless and abandoned youth.
Echiverri said Caloocan City will host the National Family Week celebration next year.
