3 cops, 1 tipster nabbed for extortion

MANILA, Philippines - Three Manila policemen and a civilian police informer were arrested for robbery-extortion yesterday in an entrapment operation in Quiapo.

Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla identified the policemen as Senior Police Officer 1 Gary June Gading, detailed at the Ermita police station; PO2 Fernando Coloma and PO1 Renato Martinez, both assigned at the MPD’s General Assignment Section; and police informer Rodel Ocampo.

Rongavilla said he received a complaint from Annie Cruz that her husband Benjamin was arrested Wednesday by the three policemen for alleged drug pushing. Annie said the policemen demanded P50,000 for his release.

Rongavilla said charges of robbery-extortion and violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices law were filed against the three policemen.
