QC to install more spy cameras to curb crime

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government is expecting a decline in crime rates when the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras is completed in major and secondary roads in the city’s 142 barangays, an official said yesterday.

Tomasito Cruz, chief of the city planning and development office, informed Mayor Herbert Bautista that there are 4,000 proposed sites for CCTV camera installations.

Cruz said the proposed CCTV camera sites will still be presented to the technical working group in a meeting of the city’s peace and order council for proper evaluation and approval.

Bautista said the CCTV cameras will also be used for disaster preparedness purposes and the city government is requiring business establishments, particularly those situated along riverbanks and creeks, to immediately install CCTV cameras.

The city government said only those business establishments that have installed CCTV systems will be given business permits for 2012.
