Suspect in murder of Dolphy's grandson nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - The prime suspect in the killing of the grandson of actor-comedian Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon seven years ago was arrested in Quezon City Tuesday.

Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr., chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Mark Kevin Lapuz, alias “Macmac,” 25, of Block 9, Lot 5, Thaddeus street, San Pedro 7, San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City, was nabbed at about 7:30 p.m. in his hideout at 112 Del Nacia Drive, Barangay Talipapa in Novaliches.

Lapuz was tagged by witnesses as the prime suspect in a shooting incident that killed Jerome Carlo Quizon in La Loma, Quezon City on Dec. 18, 2004.

Pagdilao said Quizon, who was then 17 years old, had just attended the Misa de Gallo at the Lourdes Church in La Loma, Quezon City with two friends, when the suspect, with four other companions, arrived on board a tricycle.

Police said the suspects armed with pistols and without warning, opened fire on Quizon and his companions. Quizon sustained a bullet wound in the abdomen. His two companions also sustained gunshot wounds in the abdomen and legs.

All three victims were rushed to the nearby Chinese General Hospital but Quizon was declared dead on arrival. – Non Alquitran, Mike Frialde
