MANILA, Philippines - A gambler who won P25,000 in a poker game was killed in Taguig City while handing out balato (goodwill money) to his neighbors yesterday morning.
According to Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson, spokesperson of the Southern Police District, Edgar Rey was “busy” sharing his prize money when he was shot several times with a .45 caliber handgun in Barangay Upper Bicutan.
The victim died instantly, while the gunman, who has yet to be identified, grabbed Rey’s money before fleeing.
A separate investigation made by Senior Police Officer 1 Rodelio Abenojar said Rey was about to go home after winning the game when a man in a black jacket and baseball cap pointed a gun at him and demanded his prize. He refused and was shot. Five slugs were found at the crime scene, Abenojar said.
