MANILA, Philippines - A man waiting for a bus ride died and two others were injured after an old wall, part of a demolished building, collapsed on them in Barangay Novaliches, Quezon City yesterday morning.
Mark Errol Politano died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries. Vendor Alvira Concepcion and waiter Vicente Abaga, 34, were rushed to the Bernardino Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center, respectively, for treatment.
Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Goerge Regis the wall adjacent to a pawnshop along General Luis street near Quirino Highway, where a number of eateries are located, collapsed at around 9 a.m. The collapsed wall was about 12 feet high and 20 feet long.
City public order and safety personnel were the first to respond. Police said the wall could have been weak since it was part of a demolished building where vendors have erected makeshift stalls. Regis said they are investigating the incident.
