MANILA, Philippines - A woman was killed while a five-year-old boy was wounded when they were sideswiped by a speeding tricycle loaded with large chunks of ice in Navotas City Friday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Wilson Tan said Marivic Bernos, 35, a resident of Barangay North Bay Boulevard South, died of head and body injuries while Manuel Basco, five, is undergoing treatment at the Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (DJRMMC) for similar injuries.
Tan said that Bernos and Basco were walking along Road 10 in Barangay NBBS at around 6:30 p.m. when a speeding ice delivery tricycle (VK 8932) driven by Erwin Aglinao struck them.
Bernos was hit first and thrown several meters away on the concrete road. Aglinao still failed to control his vehicle and also sideswiped the boy walking ahead of Bernos. The victims were brought to DJRMMC for treatment but Bernos was declared dead on arrival.
Senior Police Officer 1 Naturalisa Rosario said they will file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries against Aglinao.
