Woman gives birth in LRT patrol car

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - An 18-year-old woman gave birth in a patrol car of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Friday, an official said yesterday.

LRTA administrator Rafael Rodriguez said Tesalle Gomez went into labor on her way to the Fabella Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon. She alighted at the Central station, where a safety officer saw her in distress.

The safety officer called the attention of Elena Castro, station head guard on duty. Castro, along with nurse Mabel Delliova and public relations staff Remer Cuares, rushed Gomez to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, but the woman gave birth in the LRTA vehicle to her second baby.

Castro also assisted a woman who gave birth at the platform of the Pedro Gil station on Oct. 30, 2010.
