MANILA, Philippines - Two cousins were caught by policemen attempting to transport a kilo of cocaine in Quezon City Monday night.
Anti-drug operatives of the Quezon City Police District arrested Manuel Amida, 25; and his cousin, Eutiquio, 39, red-handed with a pack of cocaine worth around P200,000 along Tomas Morato Avenue.
Chief Inspector Richard Ang, head of the QCPD’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, said the seized contraband was part of the tons of cocaine dumped in the seas off Samar.
Ang said they received a tip that Manuel – a farmer living in Balangkayan, Eastern Samar – was supposed to hand over the cocaine to another person, who turned out to be Eutiquio.
“Our tipster said the contraband was supposed to be distributed in the area of Timog and Tomas Morato Avenues,” Ang said. He said the cousins claimed they were supposed to meet another person to whom they would give the contraband. According to the police official, the cousins said they were offered P10,000 to deliver the package.
“They even claimed they did not know that the bag contained illegal drugs and thought what was inside were just clothes,” he said.
