2 rob suspects slain in Cainta

MANILA, Philippines - Police killed two suspected robbers during an alleged shootout in Cainta, Rizal yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Prieto, Rizal police provincial director, said the unidentified men yielded a .45 caliber automatic pistol, a .38 caliber revolver and a black motorcycle without license plates.

Prieto said his men flagged down the two suspects in Antipolo City, but the two men sped off.

The two suspects were flagged down by his men in Antipolo City early in the morning yesterday. However, the motorcycle sped off, prompting Prieto to order checkpoints set up to intercept them.

The Cainta police caught the suspects, who chose to shoot it out with the lawmen, along the ROTC Hunters Road in Barangay San Juan at about 2:30 a.m.

Prieto strongly believes the suspects were out to stage a robbery when they were flagged down.
