Binay off to Sweden for scout jamboree
MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay left for Sweden yesterday to attend the 22nd World Scout Jamboree and meet with Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Binay is the national president of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and the chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee of the World Organization of Scout Movement. This year’s 10-day jamboree is expected to gather around 39,000 participants from 150 countries all over the world.
While in Sweden, the Vice President will attend a Baden Powell Fellowship formal dinner to be hosted by the king. He will also stay overnight at the Royal Jamboree Camp of the King near the scouting site.
“I hope to discuss with the king matters that would further promote the welfare of our countrymen in Sweden,” said Binay, who concurrently serves as the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers’ affairs.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sweden is home to 11,000 Filipinos. Binay is also scheduled to hold a dialogue with the Filipino community in Lund.
