MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has appointed new officials for the Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) and the John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC), a Palace official said yesterday.
He appointed Cesar Sarino as a member of the Philpost board of directors, with his term expiring on June 3, 2015.
The President expressed his desire to make Sarino the chairman of the board of directors as well as president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Postal Savings Bank. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the desire letter was needed as the board would have to elect the chairman as well as the head of the PPSB.
Sarino served as interior secretary under former President Corazon Aquino and as administrator of the Government Service and Insurance System under then President Fidel Ramos.
The President had earlier appointed Maria Josefina de la Cruz as postmaster general and chief executive officer of the Philpost. De la Cruz is a member of the Liberal Party, of which Aquino is the party chairman. She lost in the 2010 race for the post of Bulacan governor.
Silvestre Afable, who headed the government’s negotiating panel with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front during the Arroyo administration, was nominated chairman and member of the board of directors of the JHMC. Leandro Yañgot was also nominated as a member of the JHMC board.
